Rex Roy Griffith, 87, of Bern, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at his home. He was born on March 16, 1926 to Guy and Mary (Wissler) Griffith, rural Bern, Kansas. Rex grew up on the Griffith farm west of Bern. He and Erma enjoyed going to dances with friends, doing the Polka and Waltz. Rex had many hobbies, growing sweet corn, woodworking and restoring antique tractors. He especially liked working with metal and inventing things. They really enjoyed taking care of the grandkids on weekends. He also made many toys for the kids. Sometimes on the weekend he would attend Air Shows and Antique Tractor Shows. He enjoyed driving combines, tractors and operating farm machinery even in his later years. Rex completed the 11th grade and enlisted in the Air Force. After the Air Force, he operated Griffith Station with his dad and brother Joe. Rex married Erma Jean Lange on August 21, 1954 at Friedens U.C.C. Church. Rex was preceded in death by his parents Guy and Mary Griffith, siblings, Vernon Griffith, Nadine Griffith, Irene Blodgett, Wayne (Joe) Griffith, Robert Griffith. 
Rex is survived by his wife Erma Jean of Bern, KS, sons, Robert (Marlene) Griffith of Bern, KS, James (Lisa) Griffith of Bern, KS, brothers, Max (Margaret) Griffith of Wichita, KS, Don Griffith of Colorado Springs, CO, grandchildren, Christopher (Bethany) Griffith of Topeka, KS, Lindsay (Ronnie) Godfrey of Rossville, KS, Holly Griffith of Topeka, KS, Heather Griffith of Topeka, KS, Kellie Griffith of Bern, KS, great granddaughters, Brooklyn Godfrey, Mckenna Griffith, Alyssa Griffith, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 28, 2013 at Friedens U.C.C. Church, rural Bern, Kansas with Reverend Ken Tubbesing officiating. Visitation was on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Friedens U.C.C. Church, rural Bern, KS from 1:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Interment was at Friedens U.C.C. Cemetery, rural Bern, KS. Memorials go to the family’s choice. Arrangements were provided by Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
