Local fishermen and the catch of the da

Ron Gilbert was approaching his 75th birthday when he was fishing with a friend at Pony Creek north of Sabetha. All of a sudden, a big fish rolled up in the water and his friend remarked he wished the fish was on his line. Then it struck Ron’s line.

Gilbert said it took about 10 minutes to land and weighed in at 13 pounds. It was a catfish, his favorite kind of fish. He didn’t know it, but there was a surprise birthday party the family took him to that was a fish fry. There were more than 100 people there. His fish came in handy as he and another person fried the fish for the fry. They fried between 50 and 60 pounds of fish.
