All Betty’s Children to assist other families in their fight against cancer

“I think it went very well. “We’ve had an overwhelming support from the community,” said Tyler Evans, president of “All Betty’s Children” benevolent society established to assist families confronting cancer. A golf tournament and wine tasting event kicked off the first year fundraiser on Saturday, May 24. A total of 18 teams competed in the golf tournament at the Tecumseh Country Club.

Flags, salutes, flowers usher in Memorial Day, Pawnee County

Sunshine greeted the Memorial Day celebration in Pawnee City Monday. Last year, it rained and things moved inside to the high school gym. Howard Blecha, retired U.S. Army serviceman, gave the speech at Pawnee City. He was also the speaker at DuBois. In his speech, Blecha said today we have too few people who want to get into the game.

Engraver works on Veterans Memorial

Bill Worlein, a stone and monument engraver from Plattsmouth, spent the last weekend and Monday in Pawnee City adding 83 names to the Pawnee County Veterans Memorial. As the sun shone down over the Memorial and the flags fluttered in the breeze, Worlein worked quietly and diligently. He has been at this eight years, having bought out Gary Hazen from Elk Creek. Worlein has his shop and office in Plattsmouth and travels about a 125 mile radius to do this type of work.

Boy Scout Troop 322 from Pawnee City mobilized for disaster relief

On Mothers Day May 11, 2014 an F3 Tornado struck the town of Beaver Crossing, Nebraska. The tornado devastated the town. On Saturday May 17, 2014 Boy Scout Troop 322 from Pawnee City mobilized for disaster relief and went to Beaver Crossing to aid in clean up. Coming in from the South on Highway 15 the path of the storm was evident for several miles. Center pivots were overturned and twisted, grain bins were demolished, and serval farmstead were destroyed.

City Council votes 3-1 to keep auditor Julie Bauman

The Pawnee City City Council disagreed over whether to continue with Julie Bauman for auditing at its Monday night meeting. The vote to keep her was approved 3-1 with John Dahlgren dissenting. Bauman will charge $14,505 for 2014; $14,955 for 2015; and $15,405 for 2016. Dahlgren said the county pays $8,500 for Schulz and Associates in Beatrice and that the county has been very happy with them.

Southeast Nebraska Developement Dist. - Kevin Burnison honored

“It’s been a hoot,” said Kevin Burnison who served 25 years in the Humboldt office of the Southeast Nebraska Development District (SENDD) as an economic development specialist. According to Burnison, his role was to help villages, cities and counties within a five county area of southeast Nebraska find the solutions to the questions to satisfy state and federal regulations. The counties he worked with included Richardson, Pawnee, Nemaha, Otoe and Johnson.

A few close races in May 13 primary

Charlie Hatfield topped the Pawnee City City Council field and Kay Laun unseated Brad Stake for Pawnee County Commissioner in the May 13 primary. There were 862 votes cast in Pawnee County with a 45.88 percent
turnout.

Shayla Wissler paused at the door to the gym and then Pomp and Circumstance started. She led in her Pawnee City High School graduating class of 18 Saturday afternoon. School Board President Terry Borcher and Superintendent Stephen Grizzle both had memorable days Saturday. Both had son  graduating

Pawnee City Chamber of Commerce Flower Project

The Pawnee City Chamber of Commerce with the help of other individuals, businesses and organizations have purchased 24 planters, filled them with flowers and built a mobile watering system. Pawnee City pre-K students learn positive behavior for school and home

This past school year, Pawnee City’s pre-K program was one of several in the state to implement the Preschool Postive Behavior Intervention Support program. PBIS is a way for a school to detect problem behaviors and then treat them. Annette Hahn represented the Nebraska Department of Education in helping Pawnee City get started with the program.
