Roy Johnson

Roy Johnson, 91, of Chula Vista, California, passed away peacefully  with his family by his side, on November 6, 2014. He was born in Deland, Florida on March 9, 1923 and was raised in Pawnee City. Roy was married to Virginia (Tracy) Johnson, also of Pawnee City, for sixty-five years and preceeded him in death on January 22, 2013. He is survived by his three children, Rex, Ross, and Linda, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Services are scheduled for November 14, 2014 in Chula Vista, with burial at Miramar National Cemetary, in San Diego, on November 17, 2014

Devon Lee Hunzeker

Devon Lee Hunzeker, 16, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born February 9, 1998 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Aaron Hunzeker and Christina Findeis. He attended Paddock Lane Elementary School in Beatrice, Nebraska through the 2nd grade before moving to Humboldt where he continued his education at Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer public school through his junior year. Devon was a very involved student and athlete at HTRS. He participated in varsity basketball, wrestling, track, and was a starting utility player for the HTRS football team. Devon loved music, playing guitar, and was a “gamer”. He was an accomplished “Guitar Hero” and “Call of Duty” player on PS3

John “Dale” Wissler

John “Dale” Wissler, 87, of Pawnee City, passed away on October 20, 2014. He was born on June 14, 1927 in Kansas to John A. Wissler and Wilhelmenia (Minnie). Dale was raised on a farm in Kansas  south west of DuBois, Nebraska with his three brothers, Clifford (Bob), Ivan (Ike), and George and two sisters, Beulah and Lucille. He attended school at Prairie Grove Country School and Seneca High  School. Dale joined the service on September

EDWARD SAMUEL JOHNSON

Edward S. Johnson, 93, passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 6, 2014, in Solomons, Maryland. Ed was the 2nd child of Jacob M. and Helen M. Johnson, was born at a farm house in Pawnee County, NE, on 3 May 1921. Ed grew up in Pawnee County. His father was a sharecropper farmer, moving to a different farm each year; consequently Ed attended 8 different country schools during his elementary school years. He started high school at Table Rock, NE, but transferred to Pawnee City High School at the start of his sophomore year, and graduated in the class of 1939. Ed was a good student and won a regent’s academic scholarship to the University of Nebraska; but he never used this scholarship. He secured a loan from the Educational Foundation of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and enrolled at the Grand Island Business College, NE, in January 1940.

Doris Mae Gallagher

Doris Mae Gallagher died October 4, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer, having reached the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 16 days. She was born at home near Beattie, Kansas on May 18, 1933, the oldest child and only daughter of George and Elnora (Genschoreck) Rombeck. She attended Life School - a country school near her home - through 8th grade, and then attended and graduated from Beattie High School as a member of the Class of 1951. After graduation she worked at the Phillip’s Drug Store until she married Leonard Gallagher on April 21, 1954. To this union eight children were born. Together Leonard and Doris Mae worked the farm, ran a dairy, and raised hogs over the years. In 1988 they sold the farm and moved to Axtell. Doris was a loving and devoted farm wife. She loved to crochet, embroidery, and make hand-made quilts. Each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren have a quilt that she made for them.
