LEWISTON - Early turnovers and injuries hampered the Lewiston Tigers in their six-man season opening game against Silver Lake on Friday, August 30th.

The Tigers already had a small bench to start with, but after injuries to two starters in the first half, Lewiston had to finish the game with only 7 players. The Tigers had their chances to score early in the game, but a red zone fumble prevented them from getting on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, Silver Lake took a 12-0 lead in the first quarter.

Lewiston’s Mathew Barker hooked up with Levi Meybrunn for a big gain in the 2nd quarter, but the Tigers were stifled on their next four downs and gave the ball back to Silver Lake at the 26 yd. line.

Seven plays later the Mustangs hit paydirt after a fumbled snap resulted in a 2 yd. touchdown pass. They tacked on the extra point with 1:26 left to go up 19-0.

PAWNEE CITY - Friday night’s season opener between the Pawnee City Indians and the Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Titans ended up being a true “tale of two teams”. The ball didn’t seem to bounce in Pawnee City’s favor all night, while HTRS’ players always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. The Titans capitalized on P.C.’s early miscues and won the game by a 64-12 score.

Pawnee City Head Coach Scott Brumbaugh commented, “Early in the game we made some mistakes that set us back and made it hard to recover. However, there were some good things that our young kids did. Hopefully it is something we will be able to build from and continue to improve on in the next couple weeks out.”

HTRS got on the board right away in the game as they mounted a six-play, 58 yard drive which ended in a 25 yard pitch play to Jayden McNealy for the touchdown. The PAT run was stopped short, but the Titans went up 6-0 with 10:12 showing.

Head Coach

Jared Knapp

Assistant Coach

Whitney Antons

Last Year's Record: 1-24

Coach Knapp’s season outlook: “Our strengths this year are that we have athletic ability and return letterwinners Dana Christen, Shaylyn Salts, Masyn Arena and Becca deKoning. Our weaknesses are probably our youth and inexperience. Dana is our player with the most experience, but we also have other players who will make an impact including Katelyn Sanders who will handle our setting duties and Meagan Sanders who is our best hitter. Our main goals this season are to beat opponents with similar records and to be competitive against upper level Conference teams. The Pioneer Conference is a tough conference so every opponent is tough. Our biggest rivals are always Sterling and our county rival Pawnee City.”
