Their record was 26-0. During the ceremony, Coach Larry Ribble shared some stories of this extremely talented group. One such story included his conversation from another local coach when Larry called to get some background information on the Pawnee City opening before applying for the job. The other coach told him that the Pawnee City team was going to state with, or without a coach, and if he was smart he’d jump on the bandwagon. Coach Ribble did, and expressed what a fun ride it was.

How in the world can we avoid the deer?

The first part of the story is an interview Ray Kappel did with Game and Parks Luke Meduna about the movements of deer this time of year. The second part is a news story written by Jerry Kane of the Game and Parks offering tips to drivers so they can avoid hitting the deer. Luke Meduna said “ The biggest thing people can do is to slow down when driving around at dusk and dawn, when deer are most active, especially when near good deer habitat like timbered areas. People also need to minimize distractions and put their phones away.”

He said deer, particularly bucks, increase in activity throughout the fall due to their breeding season which peaks in mid-November

The Lady Titans defeated Lindsey Holy Family in Crete Saturday to qualify for the state tournament in Lincoln. After dropping the first set of the match 23-25 it was all Titans after that. The Titans took the remaining 3 sets, 25-14, 25-18, and 25-18.

“Overall, we played really well on Saturday against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.  In the first set, we got off to a slow start.  I think that had a lot to do with nerves and putting pressure on ourselves.  In the second set, we relaxed and were able to take control of the game.  We served aggressively and played good defense.  Our kids did a great job blocking their hitters, allowing our back-row passers to make big plays,” Coach Kara Engles stated.

JOHNSON - The Pawnee City football team traveled to Johnson-Brock on Friday night, October 11th to take on the the home-standing Eagles, but lost by a 20-78 score.

Head Coach Scott Brumbaugh commented, “By the looks of the score most would say there wasn’t much to celebrate. However, there was. For the 1st time all season the offense showed some spark. It scored in the 1st quarter and then had a missed opportunity in the 2nd quarter. Again we scored in the 3rd and 4th with another missed opportunity in the 4th when we fumbled on the one yd line. On the other side of the ball we showed signs of improvement but are still not able to put it all together yet and force teams to punt. We are getting closer to reaching that goal. This coming Friday is going to be another tough game vs FCSH. Again we are just looking to go out and improve and take away some positives before we play the last game of the year.”
