P.C. Lady Indians lack scoring in road game against Lady Jets

STERLING - A stifling second half in the scoring department hampered the Pawnee City Lady Indians on the road last Friday, December 20th against the Sterling Lady Jets. Pawnee City only trailed 6-11 after the first quarter and 12-26 at the halftime break, but the Lady Indians were shut out in the 3rd quarter and only scored two points in the final period for the 14-46 final.

Transition game lifts LHS over HTRS in 2nd half

HUMBOLDT - It took a strong third quarter for the Lewiston Tigers to pull away from the HTRS Titans last Tuesday night, December 10th. The Tigers led 19-9 after the first quarter and were up 30-17 at the half, but LHS stepped up the defensive pressure in the 3rd quarter and went on a huge 22-0 run in the first seven minutes of that period. HTRS' Logan Bredemeier finally broke that slump at the 1:10 mark with a bucket inside, but by then it was too  late.

Lady Titans claim in-county win over Lewiston

HUMBOLDT - The outcome of the Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer and Lewiston girls' basketball game on Tuesday night, December 10th was pretty much determined after the opening quarter of play. HTRS jumped out to an 11-1 lead and never looked back in their 40- 16 win over the Lady Tigers. The Lady Titans hit the boards early and often with Mollee Sharpe inside and by halftime, they had increased their lead to 18-6 over Lewiston.

PAWNEE CITY - Scott Borcher scored 23 points to lead the Pawnee City boys basketball team to its opening win of the season, a 48-26 victory over Frankfort, Kan. on Friday, December 6th. “We looked a lot more comfortable
than we did Thursday night (37-68 loss to Diller/Odell),” coach Tyler Colvin said. “We seemed to keep our composure a lot better. We finished some shots early on and I think that relaxed the kids a bit

Lady Indians hold off border foes for first win

PAWNEE CITY - Karli Cabrera scored 14 points to lead the Pawnee City girls basketball team to a 37-24 win over Frankfort, Kan. Friday night in Pawnee City. The win makes the Indians 1-1 on the season. The Indians took a 6-4 lead in the first quarter when Cabrera stole the ball and scored underneath the basket with 2:22 to go. Then she hit a 10-footer at the buzzer to give the Indians an 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Local girls are national rugby champs

    Bonnie Sisco of Burchard, left, Felicia Pursche, center, and Megan Pursche, right, both of Humboldt, are part of the Wayne State College Rugby Club team which won its second straight National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) National Championship Sunday, November 24, 2013 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
    Last year, the team was the first state college team to win the championship. This year, the Wayne State ruggers were the first team to win back-to-back championships.
    Bonnie Sisco earned a "Heart and Soul" Award for being an inspiration and making significant contributions on and off the field. She was given one of the match balls as her award.
    Felicia Pursche was named to the roster of "Best 15 Players by Position" for All-NSCRO Championship XV. She received a trophy and custom t-shirt.

At Pioneer, P.C. falls to runner-up J-B

City Lady Indians entered the 2013 Pioneer Conference Volleyball tournament as the #5 seed, but despite their home court advantage they couldn't quite knock off the eventual runner-up Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles in opening  round action. The Lady Indians and the #4 seeded Lady Eagles faced off on Monday, October 28th in Pawnee City with the Lady Eagles coming out on top by a 25-15, 25-16 score

Lady Titans defeat Southern, lose to Sterling

PAWNEE CITY - After defeating the Southern Lady Raiders in the opening round of the 2013 Pioneer Conference Volleyball tournament, the Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Lady Titans fell to both Sterling and Diller/Odell in  tough losses last week. The Lady Titans were seeded #8 coming into the tournament and took on #9 seeded Wymore Southern in opening play on Monday, October 28th. HTRS won the game by a 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 count.

Menninga learned to push himself in Cross Country this past season

PAWNEE CITY - Being able to push himself carried Alex Menninga into the state cross country meet at Kearney Friday, October 25th. He finished 52nd out of 147 in class D with a time of 19:02. He beat five other people from the district. His coach Eric Uher said the goal was to beat as may people from the district that he could. Alex was the last qualifier from the district, getting 15th place at Branched Oaks in Malcolm recently.

PAWNEE CITY–The patient Pawnee City Indian fans waited all game for this. Running back J.P. Schiffbauer broke free of tacklers and ran 42 yards for a touchdown with 2:04 to go in a 68-8 Homecoming loss to Exeter-Milligan, Thursday night. The Indian offense was able to move at times and got into the Timber Wolves territory several times, but the visitors showed why they are the No. 1 ranked team in Class D1 by keeping the home team scoreless for most of the game.
