Pawnee City holds off Frankfort's furious finish for Parent's night win

PAWNEE CITY - The crowd at Pawnee City's Parent's Night on Friday, December 1st definitely got their money's worth as they cheered their Indians on to a thrilling 42-41 victory.

The score probably wouldn't have been that close if P.C. had hit more of their freethrows throughout the game, however.

Lady Indians have tall order with Frankfort

PAWNEE CITY - The Pawnee City Lady Indians had their work cut out for them on Friday night, December 1st as they hosted the Frankfort, Ks. Lady Wildcats on Parent's Night.

At crucial times in the game, the Lady Indians found themselves outrebounded by the Wildcats who featured a 6'0" forward amongst several other players in the 5'8" to 5'10" range. The combination of extra looks at the basket and a very up-tempo offense led Frankfort to the 49-24 victory.

Pawnee City Lady Indians Basketball

Head Coach Dani Niss Assistant Coaches Jordan Schaardt Last Year's Record: 11-10

Coach Niss’ season outlook: “Conditioning and work ethic will be our strengths this season. I feel like these are two outstanding strengths that we can build upon. Our returning letterwinners are Miranda Branek, Natalie Blecha and Eve Beethe. Miranda has the most experience on the varsity court and both Natalie and Eve have a knowledge of the system and physical strength.

We also have several young players with promising potential. Our goals this season are to have a winning record and to hold our opponents to 35 points or less. Falls City Sacred Heart is always tough, but because of our schedule, we will likely see Johnson-Brock, Humboldt/Table Rock-Steinauer and Tri-County multiple times and all will be strong this year. I expect growing pains early, but I really like the persistence and attitude of this young team. The future of Pawnee City girls’ basketball is bright!”

Head Coach Tyler Ferebee Assistant Coaches Joe Worthey, Quentin Coatney

Coach Ferebee's season outlook: “Depth and numbers will be an issue for the first time in a decade. We will have quality returners, but will be thin in the overall line-up. We hope to have some tournament medalists and improve as the year progresses. Returning letterwinners for us include seniors, Kaje Faulks at 285 lbs.; Alex Flynn at 170 lbs.; Bryant Hunzeker at 126 lbs.; Bailey Bohling at 195 lbs. and junior Wyatt Schmit at 113 lbs. Kaje was injured for most of last year, and would have been the starter at 285 lbs. He is all of 285 and can move. If he can control matches, he will be a tough draw.
