Pawnee City Football

Coach Brumbaugh’s season outlook: “We return lots of experience on both sides of the ball. We return our quarterback TJ Mawhiney who had a great sophomore year so this is huge for our team. TJ can do great things again this season if he gets some help. Shamar Willey has great potential to be a great receiver also and move the chains for us. Even though we return a lot of players we still have a lot of work to do. Going 3-5 isn’t a great season and it leaves lots of room for improvement. Our goals this year are to end the season with more wins than last year and to improve our defense which has been awful at times. I would say the HTRS game would be a great rival game since the players know each other so well and our toughest game will be against Falls City Sacred Heart.”

Olivia Weinman, Dean Poskochil put new life in old houses

By Ray Kappel

Putting new life into old houses is the aim of Dean Poskochil and Oliva Weinman of Pawnee City.

They have been fixing up homes in Pawnee City for about 10 years. Their first house was for Dean’s brother Leon. He had health issues and needed a place to live. They refinished the floors and mostly painted it all. He was able to live there several years until he went into the nursing home.

They have purchased five houses since 2009 and have also worked on the home they live in. They have kept all but one for rentals and sold one. They have gotten much praise for this, especially an appraiser who told them, “What a wonderful thing you are doing, breathing new life into these old houses.”
