BNSF crews fixing track near Table Rock

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad crews work at the edge of Table Rock repairing track this week.

The recent rains washed away the bank of one of the tracks leading past the town. They call it the subgrade and it was damaged and noted by a train inspector at 3 a.m. several days ago. He saw that the train on the track at the time leaned to one side.

Pawnee County roads battered by recent rains

The transition from winter storms to spring storms wreaked havoc with Pawnee County roads.

Just when he thought he was getting over the snows, Highway Superintendent Chris Rauner found a new headache, the rains of spring. It happens every year, of course, but this year the storms were much fiercer and their damage much more prevalent.

Cornerstone process works toward bidding

The bids for the Cornerstone Community Building repair could go out in as little as six weeks.

That was the word from John Deacy of the architectural firm for the project. Right now, they are working on the design.

Wildlife habitat help

LINCOLN, Neb., June 7, 2019 – Farmers and ranchers interested in improving wildlife habitat on their operations are encouraged to apply now for funding available from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Those interested in receiving funding should apply by July 5, 2019.

Craig Derickson, state conservationist for NRCS in Nebraska said, “Nebraska ag producers care not only about growing a crop, they also enjoy caring for the wildlife that share their land.

Sunny day for consignment sale in Table Rock

It was consignment sale day in Table Rock, always the third Saturday in March. Some years have seen snow, some ice, some glorious Spring days with flowers sprouting. The outcome this year was unpredictable with recent heavy snows, but the day turned out gloriously sunny. But the ground was soaked flooding north, west, and east of us the topic of conversation.

Lewiston grad takes rotation as PA intern

Bonnie Vrbicky had a great science teacher at Lewiston Consolidated where she graduated in 2011.

He was instrumental in her growing interest in science. That love for science led to a career in medicine. She is completing a rotation as a Physician’s Assistant student at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital and Rural Clinic.

This area packs a semi for the flood victims

It started as Stuff the Bus but it became Stuff the Semi.

Tuesday a semi-truck and trailer pulled out of Pawnee City and headed to North Bend.

Co. Treasurer settling in

The Republican asked new County Treasurer Stefanie Cumro Rauner how the job was going. Here are her answers.

Q: How have the first two months on the job gone overall?

A: The first two months on the job have been great and have gone extremely fast! There is so much to learn but I'm enjoying every minute of it. Some days are a little more stressful but I think that goes with any new position.

4 Veterans get quilts in Table Rock

On Tuesday, October 16, a Veteran’s quilt presentation ceremony was held in Table Rock. Quilts were presented by the Pawnee County Quilters to Lavon Covault, Harry Griebling and Paul Smith, accepted by his wife Jane. A Quilt of Valor made by Lori Albers-Coates was presented to Shad Gager.
