P.C. falls to eventual champion J-B in D1-2

WYMORE - The Pawnee City Lady Indians were the #4 seed heading into the Class D1-2 Subdistricts at Wymore Southern last week.

The Lady Indians faced the #1 seeded and eventual champion Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles in the first round on Tuesday, February 12th and lost by a 24-40 count.

P.C. only trailed 5-6 after the 1st period and were down 11-19 at the half. The third quarter hurt the Lady Indians as J-B outscored them 16-9 in that period and then edged them 5-4 in the final quarter.

Early miscues hinder HTRS Titans

HUMBOLDT - Turnovers and missed opportunities early in the game hampered the Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Titans in their Parent's Night game against Johnson-Brock on Friday night, February 8th.

The Titans had a lot of missed shots and turnovers to open the game which allowed J-B to build a substantial lead en route to their 65-32 victory over HTRS.

J-B opened the game with a steal and layup before Hunter Hain drove the paint for two points. HTRS missed shots and a layup in the next few minutes while the Eagles extended their lead to 12-2.

Schmit qualifies for State Wrestling Meet

AQUINAS - The Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer/Pawnee City wrestling team traveled to the Class C District 3 Tournament on Friday and Saturday, February 8th and 9th and placed 11th in team scoring with 46 points, but more importantly, qualified one wrestler for the State Meet this week.

Wyatt Schmit, a senior for HTRS/P.C. qualified in the 120 lb. division by claiming the silver medal.

The State Wrestling Meet will be held Thursday-Saturday, February 14th-16th at the CHI Health Center in Omaha. See nsaahome.org for bracket information and pairings.

Low shot percentage hurts HTRS girls

HUMBOLDT - The Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Lady Titans faced the #1 seeded Sterling Lady Jets on Tuesday, January 29th in their second game of the Pioneer Conference Tournament.

The Lady Titans had a lower than normal shot percentage from the field as they only connected on 11/42 total shots in the game and lost by a 34-65 score.

Sterling jumped out on the Lady Titans 16-4 in the first period and improved that lead to 28-11 by the half. The Lady Jets outscored HTRS 22-14 in the 3rd period and 15-9 in the final quarter for the win to advance to the Conference semifinals.

Matilyn Stalder led all scorers with 13 points and had 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist while Jennabella Vasco scored 6 points with 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assists. Katilyn Glathar pitched in 5 points with 8 rebounds and Natalie Novak had 5 points with one trey, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 assist.

Lady Indians’ hard work almost pays off against Tri-County

HUMBOLDT - The Pawnee City Lady Indians faced the #7 seeded Tri-County Lady Trojans in the consolation bracket of the Pioneer Conference Tournament on Friday, February 1st and almost came away with a victory.

P.C. led 10-6 after the 1st period and were ahead 20-17 at the half. Tri-County went on a big 15-5 run in the 3rd period before P.C. outscored them 15-13 in the final quarter and came up short, 40-45.

After opening win, HTRS boys suffer tough losses

HUMBOLDT - The Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer boys had a tough time as the #6 seed in the Pioneer Conference Basketball Tournament last week. The Titans defeated Friend in the first round, but then lost to both Tri-County and Sterling in their next two games.

In the first round, HTRS went up against the #11 seeded Friend Bulldogs and cruised to an easy 72-32 victory.

HTRS raced out to a 26-8 lead and were up 43-18 at the halftime break. The Titans outscored Friend 12-7 in the 3rd period and 17-7 in the final quarter.

Conner Bredemeier led the Titans with 17 points and had 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Hunter Hain followed with 12 points and had 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. Caleb Tackett pitched in 10 points with 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

P.C. boys fall to D/O, defeat Friend in Pioneer consolation

PAWNEE CITY - The Pawnee City Indians had their ups and downs at the Pioneer Conference Basketball Tournament last week as they went 1-1 in their two games.

Pawnee City vs. Diller/Odell

On Monday, January 28th, the #10 seeded Indians faced the #7 seeded Diller/Odell Griffins in the first round of the Pioneer Tournament and lost by a 35-50 score.

TJ Mawhiney led all Indian scorers with 12 points and had 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Theo Lilleheim followed with 10 points and had two treys, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Mason Lierz contributed 6 points off of two treys and had 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

Pawnee City vs. Friend

In consolation play on Friday, February 1st, the Pawnee City Indians went up against the #11 seeded Friend Bulldogs and controlled the game from start to finish.

HTRS, P.C. girls meet in 1st round of Pioneer

HUMBOLDT - The first round of the 2019 Pioneer Conference Basketball Tournament pit the #8 seeded Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Lady Titans against the #9 seeded Pawnee City Lady Indians on Monday night, January 28th. The game was low-scoring for both teams as the Lady Titans only shot 29% from the field and the Lady Indians only 20% from the field. HTRS was also 6/14 from the freethrow line while P.C. was 0/4.

Pawnee City led 9-7 after the 1st period, but HTRS took a 13-12 lead at the half. HTRS outscored the Lady Indians 11-4 in the 3rd period to go ahead 24-16. P.C. went on an 8-3 run in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough as HTRS won the game by a 27-24 score.

Jennabella Vasco and Katilyn Glathar led the Lady Titans with 7 points each. Vasco also had 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists while Glathar had 13 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks and 1 assist. Natalie Novak pitched in 6 points with 2 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block.

Second quarter scoring hurts P.C. girls against J-B

PAWNEE CITY - The second quarter was where the Pawnee City Lady Indians lost their battle with the visiting Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles on Friday night, January 25th. Pawnee City only trailed 6-9 after the 1st quarter, but then Johnson-Brock went on a 19-8 run in the 2nd period to carry a 28-14 lead into the half. The Lady Eagles also outscored P.C. 16-8 in the 3rd period and 16-11 in the final quarter to get the 60-33 win. Krista Menninga topped out in scoring for P.C. with 12 points and she had 2 treys, 1 assist and 1 steal. Reagan deKoning scored 7 points with 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal while Madison Branek tacked on 7 points, led in rebounds with 10 and had 2 assists and 2 blocks.
