Showing and raising chickens a project for many area people

The big day for kids showing chickens at the Pawnee County Fair is July 29. That’s the day of the poultry show. Last year, they had 116 entries with 16 different classes. Rodney Nightingale, the 4-H Poultry Superintendent, said there is a lot involved in showing chickens.

Vic Faesser logs another long road trip

Local attorney Vic Faesser is back from another bike trip. He has gone on many in his biking career, including Bike Ride Across Nebraska and a trip around the perimeter of the state twice. This one he took with his biking buddy Patrick Grewe of Lincoln.

Mid-America Structures opens plant in Table Rock

Business is booming for Mid-America Structures. It was started 10 years ago by Wendell Yoder of Peru. He started with just himself doing all the work from building to bookkeeping to hauling. He soon added his two brothers, wife and dad to the staff and kept growing. He has 10 on the staff now.

The Veterans Memorial in Pawnee City will have two more slabs of granite to add names to soon. They will be smaller than the exisiting ones. River Valley Memorials is overseeing the project. Dave Glynn is doing the concrete work. A group met last Wednesday to go over the project.

On Flag Day (July 14th) the American Legion Post 168 of Pawnee City performed a dignified disposal of unserviceable flag ceremony at the post home. Present were commander R. Bowman, adjutant M. Landry, chaplain L. Borcher and members D. Buman, J. Bailey, S. Stephens, L. Bradbury, and P. Jones.

Sheriff stops man from suicide by cop

At approximately 4:44 PM on Friday June 18th 2021 the Pawnee County Sheriff's Office received information that a male in his 30's had made his intention known of committing suicide by cop.

Formal charges have been filed against Garrett deKoning for Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person and Possession of Controlled Substance in a incident occurring several weeks ago.
