Sheriff Office Welcomes New Deputy

The Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office recently hired 21-yearold Ashton McCown to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former deputy Taylor Bredemeier.McCown, who grew up in Fairbury, Nebraska, is a member of the Nebraska National Guard and is a first generation member of law enforcement.

Shayla Wissler has attended the last six National FFA Conventions, four of them as a high school member. Last year she competed in the National Farm Business Management Contest. This year, she went to the convention in Louisville, Kentucky, to receive her American FFA Degree.

The following are ongoing cases in the Pawnee County Court. The Pawnee Republican will report on them as they develop. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Pawnee County Court was held October 16 in the Pawnee County Courthouse. Judge Richard Smith presided.

SNAP Benefits Paused in November Due to Federal Shutdown

Lincoln, NE – The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), at the direction of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), will pause Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on October 29 due to the federal government shutdown.
