Here in southeast Nebraska, July has a way of turning the daytime woods into a heavy, suffocating wet blanket. By two o’clock in the afternoon, the cicadas are screaming bloody murder from the oak trees, the air is thick enough to chew, and even the ditch-bank catfish seem too lazy to bite.
