Byford Schmit of Steinauer considers himself lucky this past deer season. He got a nice big buck. Schmit bagged a 5 x 4 buck weighing about 220 pounds on the first Sunday of deer season. Numbers of deer tagged this year were down 35 percent from last year, according to Dennis Schaardt, owner of Den’s Country Meats. He said his business tagged 230 deer.
