Stop Winter Itch

When the humidity drops very low in the winter, the skin suffers. Not only does the skin dry out from the low humidity, but also from many things we normally do, such as bathing which washes away the skin’s protective oils. When the skin gets dry it begins to itch, and scratching it only makes it worse.

The Lewiston LCS (Leadership, Character, Service) Club completed two activities in February. (Top) Members prepared and served breakfast to the Lewiston staff Wednesday, February 10. (Bottom) Members also helped with Valentine's Day balloon deliveries Thursday, February 11.

Elsie Tomek, Assisted Living Resident of the Month

Elsie Tomek was born at home on the farm near DuBois, NE, just a few minutes older than her twin sister, Edna Wittwer. She has two other sisters, Alma Mach and Betty Stauffer. She is close to her sisters and enjoys telephone calls and time spent with them. Elsie attended District 70 country school and graduated from Pawnee High School. She then worked at the State Bank of DuBois before her marriage to Milan Tomek of Table Rock, in 1956. They became the parents of Pam, Mark, and Barb. Elsie dearly loves her family, and has eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She enjoys attending their activities and events.

NPPD advises on winter electric bills

Columbus, Neb. – The recent sub-zero weather conditions in Nebraska and throughout the Midwest are expected to impact consumer electric bills, but Nebraska Public Power District does not foresee the same magnitude some in Texas may face.

Broadband initiative launched

STATEWIDE - The Nebraska Regional Officials Council (NROC) announces the launch of a statewide broadband mapping initiative. Every Nebraskan is encouraged to partake in the one-minute speed test from any internet-enabled device, including cell phones. Speed data will provide decision makers a better understanding of where internet accessibility is limited or not available, and where speeds are not meeting the needs of today’s users.

HTRS FFA is moving forward

It has been an interesting year for HTRS FFA and all of southeast Nebraska. We have been taking everything in stride and moving ahead with what we can. The end of the school year last year, we won the state competition for our hall of chapters booth. This was exciting and disappointing at the same time, in that we did not have a national competition for it last school year.
