These cryptic little snakes are often hard to see and make every effort to keep themselves hidden so it is quite possible that there are other small populations that we do not yet know about.
The Western Massasauga rattlesnakes of Pawnee County are on a state threatened species list and as a result are being studied as part of a state conservation plan.
