Steven Duane Avery was born to Neal Orlando Avery and Adella Emily Shinn on February 1,1941, at Pawnee City, Nebraska. Steve passed away on March 25, 2025, at the Pawnee County hospital at the age of 84, 1 month and 24 days.
Steve went to country school #66 and then to Pawnee City High School, graduating in 1958. He joined the Army Reserves and received an honorable discharge. In 1962 he married Mildred Schnepp, and they had a daughter, Rhonda.
Steve enjoyed farming and keeping his farm in good shape. He always had a deep spiritual interest and belief in God. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1975. He was very active in serving his God Jehovah.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Adella Avery.
He is survived by his wife Mildred, their daughter Rhonda and a cousin Alice Shinn Albers of Chicago, nieces and nephews and many friends. He meant a great deal to many, and he will be missed!
Celebration of Life, 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the DuBois Community Building, DuBois, Nebraska. Officiating Pastor Robert McLellan. No visitation. Private inurnment at the DuBois Cemetery, DuBois, Nebraska. Memorials to family for a later destination.
