Don Young said you have to be half-trapper, half-bird dog to get a giant pumpkin all the way from start to harvest. Young should know. He was the winner of the Giant Pumpkin contest last year and came from his home in Des Moines for another try and walked away with the $2,000 first prize. His personal best is 1,662 lbs. and he is understandably the Iowa State Champion.Dennis Schaardt too...
