Tombstone of young Leland Wood, who died in 1907 at the age of 20. On the side is engraved, “His life went out in a mission of mercy.” He drowned in a flood trying to save a neighbor’s horse from their barn. He was a strong swimmer but apparently got caught up in a fence under the water.
