James (Alfred) Rhodes of Humboldt, Nebraska passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the age of 90 at Colonial Acres in Humboldt, Nebraska. Jim was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska on July 25, 1933, to Alfred and Ila (Stoll) Rhodes. He grew up in his younger years in Omaha, Nebraska until parents moved to Pawnee City, Nebraska where he graduated high school.

As a young boy Jim enjoyed spending time with his Grandpa Stoll. They spent many hours fishing and working with horses. He enjoyed helping Grandpa Stoll at the racetrack exercising the horses before the races. At the age of 18 Jim was drafted into the Army where he served three years in Korea as a gunnery Sergeant. During this time Jim received several accommodations for his service.

On May 23, 1953, Jim married Anna Mae Friedly in Pawnee City. To this union 5 children were born, Jeff, Kim, Randy, Scott, and Deb. Jim worked for Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co. as a Lineman until he was injured and transferred to an office in Lincoln. In 1969 Jim moved his family to Pawnee City due to not wanting his kids to attend bigger schools in Lincoln and wanting a Rural school atmosphere. He remained at LT&T until he retired in 1980. In 1982 Jim and Anna Mae divorced and in 1985 Jim married Ramona Kroese in Panama, Nebraska.

Jim loved working with the 4H kids during the fair, showing horses on weekends, going on trial rides and roller skating with family. After retiring he enjoyed training horses, going to horse sales, and fishing. He and Ramona belonged to Nebraska Trail Riders and spent many weekends trail riding in different areas of Nebraska.

Jim was proceeded in death by grandparents, John and Olive Stoll and parents, Alfred and Ila Rhodes and daughter in law, Sonja Rhodes.

He is survived by Ramona Rhodes of Humboldt, Jeff (Dineen) Rhodes, Kim (Dan) Harris all of Pawnee City, Randy (Cynde) Rhodes of Ephrata, Washington, Scott Rhodes of Emmett, Idaho, and Deb (Mike) Wilcox of Pawnee City. Grandkids Chad Meyer, Danielle (Trevor) Eisenbarth, Garrett (Dina) Harris, Janelle (Diane) Waters, Lilly Rhodes, Delton (Katie) Rhodes, Rena Rhodes, Ethan (Juanita) Wilcox, Levi (Holli) Wilcox and Shelby Wilcox. Great Grandkids: Corbin, Ashtynn, RyAnn, Taylor, Cutter, Logan, Addison, Austin, Dakota, Abel, Chelsie, Jaron, Kiera, Bailey, Blaine, Jayden, Declan and Weston.

Memorial service 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 8, 2023, at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Officiating Reverend Ken Tubbesing. Visitation on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Private family inurnment at the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City Nebraska. Memorial to family choice for a later destination.
