State lawmakers opt for income tax cuts over property tax relief

State lawmakers went home recently, ending a 90-day session marked by reductions in spending and borrowing from cash reserves to close a projected budget gap that once topped $400 million.Hard to believe that just a couple of years ago, the state was sitting on a huge surplus of cash.

City Council Approached with Plea to Save Pawnee City Daycare

Josie Friedly approached the Pawnee City City Council at their regular meeting on Monday, June 9 to invite council members to attend a meeting on June 18 aimed at saving the Second Home Childcare Center in Pawnee City.

Youth Leadership at Pawnee City Pool

A team of youth has been assembled to staff the Pawnee City Pool this summer.19-year-old pool manager Mallory Branek said she has five life guards between the ages of 15 and 16 and two lifeguards that are 18.These guards undergo biweekly trainings.

After blowing hard all week, the wind increased Sunday, doing a little damage around the country. No serious loss is reported, but some of the telephone lines were blown down, cutting off communications for a short time in several sections of the county.
