Pawnee City native Greg Blecha was inducted into the Nebraska Polka Hall of Fame on September 8, 2024.He learned he would be inducted in the middle of May. “I remember because my daughter got married on June 1,” he said.

History of VFW “Buddy” Poppy

Before Memorial Day in 1922, the VFW conducted its first poppy distribution, becoming the first veterans’ organization to organize a nationwide distribution. The poppy was soon adopted as the official memorial flower of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, as it remains today.

Pawnee Public School to Host Veterans’ Day Program

The Pawnee Public School will host a Veterans’ Day program in the school gym on November 11 at 10 A.M. The program will include a speaker, music and the living honor roll.Following the program, the school will serve a meal for veterans and their families.

Angel Tree

Need a little help this Christmas? Applications for gifts from the Angel Tree Program can be picked up at the City Office in Pawnee City (605 G Street) starting Oct. 28th. They are due back to the City Office by Nov. 18th.

Commissioners Deal With Courthouse Heating System

The October 16th commissioners began with a report from Mark Tegtmeier, janitor and groundskeeper for the courthouse. Tegtmeier met with the commissioners to address concerns about the heating and cooling system in the courthouse.
