The Pawnee County Fair is one of the oldest institutions in Pawnee County. It is nearly as old as the state of Nebraska, and nearly as old as the Pawnee Republican which is one of the oldest businesses in the State of Nebraska. Dear Editor, On behalf of last week’s anonymous letter, I would like to voice a reply of true facts. I go to the pool with my granddaughter an average of 5 days a week. We stay three hours. I personally don’t swim much, so I am aware of the surrounding during that time.

The country school in old School District 32, was known as the Pleasant Valley Country School, and was also known as the Lionberger school. Today it is mostly known as the Rock School, for it is built of native limestone rock quarried from just over the hill. The school was closed in 1956.
Russel Workman graduated from Table Rock in 1959 and returned to teach there in 1983. Here he is with a basketball trophy won when he was a senior. Although a high school athlete, music was his passion. He says he tells his grandchildren, “Real men sing!”

It’s county fair season, which means two things: 1) I’m crunched for time, and 2) I’ve been seeing and tasting a lot of foods prepared by our community’s youth these past couple days.
7-year-old Keegan Skuban, daughter of Amanda Buman Skuban and John Skuban of Lincoln, NE, has participated in the “Drive, Chip, & Putt” contest at Firethorn Golf Course in Lincoln. There were kids, boys, and girls from 4 States. In Keegan’s age group, she came in 3rd and qualified to go to Minnesota, August 5th to compete there. Keegan is the Granddaughter of Dale and Roxann Buman of Pawnee City.
