There’s been a lot of talk about preserving the officially nonpartisan nature of the Nebraska Legislature. But there is another issue, occasionally discussed with similar zeal in years past, that’s creeping up again. (Gasp!) It’s the urban-rural split.

Jim Pillen Sworn in as Governor of Nebraska

Left: Jim Pillen was sworn in on Thursday, January 5th as the 41st governor of Nebraska.He is replacing Pete Ricketts who was Governor for two terms starting in 2015. Pillen previously served on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents since 2012 and was a Veternarian as well.

Vrtiska Seibel Joins Foundation Board

Lori (Vrtiska ‘84) Seibel has joined the Peru State College Foundation Board of Directors to usher in 2023. The Lincoln, Neb. resident was elected in November and began her three-year term in January. Jeff Greenwald (’71) and Al Urwin (‘82) of LaVista, Neb. were re-elected to the Board.

Human Trafficking Awareness Month

Project Response is honoring Human Trafficking Awareness month by wearing blue on Jan 11th. Human trafficking is an ongoing problem in our country.

Fire Department to aquire property for parking area

The fire departent has acquired the property on the corner of 14th and G street. The intentions for this property is to be cleared off and used for a parking area for the new fire hall. In other news Pawnee County Sheriff Braden Lang gave his monthly report to the council.

Carolyn VanHorne Civic Award

It is again time for nominations for the Carolyn VanHorne Civic Award. This award was started in 2012 and is intended to provide the community with an opportunity to publicly acknowledge the contributions made by certain individuals for the betterment of the Pawnee City area.
