News Editor marks 10 years at the paper

This issue of the paper marks my 10 years at the Republican. It has been quite a ride. I have truly enjoyed writing about the people and events in Pawnee County and also getting a chance to capture some of the beauty with my camera.

City’s Sewer Jet Trailer helping solve sewer backup problems faster

Pawnee City recently purchased a Sewer Equipment of America 747 Jet Trailer. The total cost of the Jet Trailer was $84,703 but Clerk Tammy Curtis applied for the USDA grant and they received it. The grant covered $46,500 so the city’s out of pocket cost was $38,203.

Steinauer Community Heritage House Update

“In November last year the Steinauer Community Heritage House embarked on its most ambitious project. It was completed in three phases, replacement of the front door, replacement of six windows and new siding.

A look at a circus train fire in Pawnee City in 1904

We are responding to readers’ requests to get more history articles in the paper, so this is one of those stories. It is about the Campbell Bros. Circus fire that happened in Pawnee City in 1904. The Campbell Brothers Virgil, Charlie, Al, and Ed started the circus in Galesburg, Ill. In 1883.

2012-10 Years Ago The first change order to add money to the Pawnee City sewer project came before the city council Monday night. The largest expense on the order was $11,000 for a control box to be added back into the project.

Snoring May Indicate Sleep Disturbance

Snoring is not as funny as all the jokes about it. It may be an indication of a serious problem called sleep apnea. Snoring is a sound that is made when a person’s tongue and the soft tissues of the throat cause partial obstruction of the airways during sleep.
