Items must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. the Friday before publication to be included in this calendar. No exceptions Friday, May 28 5:00 p.m.-Meet at the courthouse to put up the Avenue of Flags. In case of inclement weather on the 28th, the flags will be put up on the 29th at 7:00 a.m.

I flipped the page of my office calendar from April to May a few days ago. (Yes, I know I’m a little—three weeks!?!?!—behind.) Small print in the square marked “31” called to my attention that next Monday is Memorial Day. Already? (Sigh.

City changes policy on personal use of equipment

The City of Pawnee City has stopped its policy of allowing staff and Council to use city equipment for their own personal use. A couple weeks ago, the reporter observed a city employee using city equipment after hours to mow grass.

Fair Parade theme

Planting season has had its challenges

$1,500 karaoke contest

The Pawnee County Ag Society is planning a karaoke contest with $1,500 in prize money for the 140th Pawnee County Fair. The winner of the competition will take home $1,000, and the runner-up will win $500.
