The following are the winning essays from area schools for the Patriot’s Pen essay competition. Contestants are in grades 6-8 Patriotism to me used to mean standing and saying the Pledge of Allegiance at school and standing up for the National Anthem at sporting events.

The following are the winning essays from area schools for the Voice of Democracy essay competition. Contestants are in grades 9-12 July fourth. Seventeen seventy-six. A document with the words “We the People” at the top. Signed by fifty-six men, all representatives of the thirteen colonies.

After weeks of debate in Washington, the House and Senate finally came together to pass a bipartisan funding package that reopens the federal government. President Trump signed it into law Wednesday night, marking the end of the longest shutdown in American history.

Beloved Former Editor of Humboldt Standard Dies

On November 17, 2025 at 3:52 a.m. as we prepared this week's issue of the Humboldt Standard, Roxanne Sailors passed away. Roxanne was the 16th editor of the Humbolt Standard in its 143 year history. She was the first woman. Her years at the helm saw a newsy paper filled withlocal goings on.

City Council Pleased withTown Cleanup Efforts

The Pawnee City City Council discussed several improvements to untidy properties at their regular meeting on Monday, November 10.Foreman Spencer Cumley told the council the fall city wide cleanup was a big success. The city crew hauled away 21,000 pounds of waste.
