Planting seeds sounds straightforward and, frankly, it should be: Buy a seed, plant it, add water and watch it grow. But one look at the back of a jargon-filled seed packet can have you spewing expletive-filled rants to no one in particular.Fear not.

After about a decade of controversy, Pawnee County had a new courthouse. Begun in the Spring of 1911, and finished in 1912, it cost $85,000. The architect was W. F. Gernandt and Company of Fairbury, Nebraska, who designed ours and 9 other Nebraska courthouses between 1910 and 1923.

The Knights of Columbus Council of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer hosted a fish fry at their hall on Friday night.Though the weather was cold and windy, the event was well attended as usual with the line stretching the length of the hall and even out the door.

When I first moved up to southeast Nebraska, I thought I had a pretty good handle on the outdoors. I had chased deer through hardwood bottoms, listened for gobblers at daylight, and spent plenty of mornings with a fishing rod in my hand. I figured the woods were the woods no matter where you went.
