Deputy Townsend resigns

Pawnee County Deputy Josh Townsend has taken a job with the Richardson County Sheriff. Pawnee County Sheriff Braden Lang told the Council Townsend resigned at the Monday night City Council meeting. This leaves the department with just two fulltime certified officers Lang and Deputy Brad Willey.

Hay bale fire Monday

The Pawnee City Fire Department responded to a call of hay bales on fire at Jeff Johnson’s property five miles west of Pawnee City on Highway 8. The call came at 11:40 a.m. On arrival they found around 30 bales on fire along with a trailer.

Higher voter turnout for this Presidential election

This year’s election had a higher voter turnout in Pawnee County than the three previous presidential elections. Of the 1,886 registered voters, 1,443 voted for 76.51 percent. That compares to 70.91 percent in 2016, 70.75 percent in 2012 and 71.76 percent in 2008.

Fisher, Haughton new City Councilmen

Donnie Fisher and Bruce Haughton are the new Pawnee City Councilmen. They bested incumbents John Dahlgren and Vickie Zelenka in the Nov. 3 election. Fisher has been on the Council before; Haughton has not. They will be sworn in the first Council meeting in December.

Lewiston falls to #1 D/O in D2-1

ODELL - The Lewiston Lady Tigers were the #4 seed in the Class D2-1 subdistrict which was held at Diller/Odell on Monday October 26th. The Lady Tigers had the unenviable task of taking on their hosts who were the #1 seed with a 27-1 record. Lewiston lost in three sets, 6-25, 5-25, 3-25.
